HC Deb 12 March 1952 vol 497 c1384
54. Mr. Edward Short

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General if he will now give an assurance that the low-power transmitter which is to be brought into operation at Wenvoe in August, is not the one which it was previously intended to erect at Pontop Pike.

The Assistant Postmaster-General (Mr. David Gammans)

I am informed that the B.B.C. has not earmarked any particular transmitter for eventual use at Pontop Pike. The low-power transmitters at either Holme Moss or Kirk o'Shotts could also be used at Pontop Pike.

Mr. Short

Could the Minister say when the low-power transmitter will be brought into operation at Pontop Pike for the very important area of the country which manufactures a good deal of this electrical equipment?

Mr. Gammans

That is a much wider matter, which does not come within the ambit of this Question.
