HC Deb 30 July 1952 vol 504 c1478
43. Mr. Hobson

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General if he has any further statement to make on the mail van ambush and robbery which occurred near Oxford Street in May.

Mr. Gammans

I regret that at present there is nothing which I can usefully add to the reply which I gave to the right hon. Member for Caerphilly (Mr. Ness Edwards) and to my hon. Friend the Member for Orpington (Sir W. Smithers) on 11th June last.

Mr. Hobson

Is the Minister still having Departmental inquiries with regard particularly to the routeing of this vehicle and also with regard to the question of substitution of vehicles?

Mr. Gammans

Yes, that is so.

Mr. Proctor

Does not the hon. Gentleman think that the Government have set a bad example to the gangsters by attempting to rob the nation of £40 million on transport?
