§ 6. Mr. A. Hendersonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is now in a position to make a statement on the result of Her Majesty's Government's discussions with the Chinese Government for the appointment of a protecting Power in respect of British prisoners of war in North Korea.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydAs my hon. Friend told the House on 21st July, we are seeking clarification of the effect of the Chinese Government's recognition of the 1949 Geneva Convention. I am not yet in a position to make any statement on the result of our inquiries.
§ Mr. HendersonDoes the right hon. and learned Gentleman expect to receive a reply this week, and, if so, would he consider making a statement before the House goes into Recess?
§ Mr. LloydJudging from previous experience, I should say that it is exceedingly unlikely that we will get an answer this week, but if we do I will consider what the right hon. and learned Gentleman has suggested.
