HC Deb 01 July 1952 vol 503 cc237-8
43. Mr. John MacLeod

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the total value of herring landed at Ullapool Pier over the last five years.

Mr. J. Stuart

£971,415.

44. Mr. John MacLeod

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has yet come to any decision as regards Ullapool Pier.

Mr. J. Stuart

No, Sir. I am asking the Highlands Panel for their advice on the two schemes which have been put forward.

Mr. MacLeod

Does my right hon. Friend not agree that the figure he gave previously, of £971,000, is a considerable amount, and that it is in the national interest that this pier should get the grant so that it can be extended, as all the development in the area is being held up for that reason?

Mr. Stuart

I agree that the landings have very greatly increased since during the war, and there may be congestion when landings are very heavy. I shall be very glad to consider any schemes which are put forward.
