HC Deb 31 January 1952 vol 495 cc343-4
17. Mr. William Teeling

asked the President of the Board of Trade what action he will take concerning the distribution of moneys under the German Enemy Property Act to holders of non-Reich loans.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

Amending legislation will be introduced to provide that holders of German non-Reich Sterling Bonds making claims under the Distribution of German Enemy Property Act need not prove British ownership of these bonds at 3rd September, 1939. Until the form of application is settled holders of these bonds need not submit claims, and the time limit for these claims will be extended accordingly.

Mr. Teeling

When will this legislation be introduced?

Mr. Thorneycroft

I cannot say exactly when it will be introduced. I have, however, consulted the Stock Exchange, and, while it is a matter for them, I understand that after this announcement it is probable that dealings in the bonds can be resumed.
