Commander GalbraithThe expenditure of education authorities on administration was £418,268 for 1938, £544,737 798 for 1945, and £946,086 for 1950. This represented 3.04, 3.12 and 2.87 per cent. respectively, of their total expenditure for the years in question.
§ Mr. HamiltonIn view of the fact that these percentages are very small, expressed as a fraction of the total amount expended on education, will the hon. and gallant Gentleman give an undertaking that the circular that is to be issued shortly will not be so stupid as to suggest to the local authorities that they should make a 5 per cent. cut overall by concentrating on administration?
