§ 32. Mr. Snowasked the Minister of Food what system operates in his Department for the periodical and local analysis and examination of balancer meal, in order to prevent the supply of impure and verminous stocks to domestic poultry keepers.
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeThe Ministry of Food determines the standard of poultry balancer meal by licensing manufacturers under the Feeding Stuffs (Manufacture) Order, 1952. The maintenance of this standard is subject to check by my officers.
§ Mr. SnowMay I ask the right hon. and gallant Gentleman whether, if I bring a certain case to his attention, he is prepared to arrange for a sample to be taken on the spot from a supplier in the Midlands, so that my constituent's complaint 956 to me about impure and verminous supplies may be looked into and adequately dealt with?
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeI am very glad that the hon. Gentleman has brought the matter to my attention, but, so far as the retailer is concerned, it is the responsibility of the county council or the county borough council. I am responsible for seeing that the conditions of manufacturers' licences are being completely fulfilled. If the hon. Gentleman brings a particular case to my notice, I will be glad to look into it.
§ Mr. SnowIs the Minister aware that, in this particular case, my constituent happens to be a former grain merchant, who maintains that the impurities in and the verminous conditions of his supplies originate from the floor of the granary?
