HC Deb 08 December 1952 vol 509 cc20-1
26. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Food at what prices coarse grains are available for sale to this country in Turkey; and what purchases he is making.

Dr. Hill

Turkish coarse grain has recently been offered for sale to the Ministry, but at prices considerably above world values. We have made bids, but no purchases have resulted.

Mr. Osborne

In view of the fact that in the first 10 months of this year exports to Turkey amounted to £28½ million and imports were only £5½ million, will the Minister do his best to see that whatever foods are offered he will try to purchase?

Dr. Hill

We are willing to take coarse grain from Turkey at reasonable prices
