HC Deb 02 December 1952 vol 508 cc1258-9
6. Miss Burton

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that in the Forces parcel service, as organised by the Navy, Army, and Air Force Institutes, no provision is made for Service men who are non-smokers; and whether he will make arrangements for at least one parcel out of the 44 detailed on the printed leaflet to be acceptable to nonsmokers.

The Secretary of State for War (Mr. Antony Head)

I am glad to say that arrangements have been made to add to this list of 44 gift parcels which may be sent to Service men in Japan or Korea two non-smokers' parcels, costing 10s. and 5s., respectively.

Miss Burton

In thanking the right hon. Gentleman, might I ask him if he is aware that this suggestion did not originate with me but came from the wife of a serving man in Korea, himself a non-smoker, who will be most grateful for what the right hon. Gentleman has done?

Mr. Head

I am obliged to the hon. Lady for passing on the suggestion.
