HC Deb 02 December 1952 vol 508 cc1281-2
60. Mr. Pearson

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will do all possible to prevent the closing down of the factory of Messrs. A. K. Huttle and Co., Ltd., Dinas Isaf, Glamorganshire, which firm has employed a high percentage of disabled men.

61. Mr. Mainwaring

asked the President of the Board of Trade what representations have been made to him that might have the effect of avoiding the threatened closing down of the Huttle factory at Dinas Isaf, Glamorganshire.

Mr. H. Strauss

On receiving a letter from the tenant company, we discussed the position with them, and we find that their main difficulties arise from trading risks which they are unwilling to assume in future. They have been made fully aware of the facilities available to them under the Distribution of Industry Act.

Mr. Pearson

In view of the disappointment that the closing of this factory will cause to this area where there are so many disabled men, can the Parliamentary Secretary say that an alternative tenant will soon be found?

Mr. Strauss

That is certainly the desire of Her Majesty's Government, and we shall do what we can to find an alternative tenant for the reasons mentioned by the hon. Gentleman.
