HC Deb 02 December 1952 vol 508 cc1282-3
46. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Prime Minister in what respects the duties of the Economic Secretary to the Treasury will differ from those of the Minister of State for Economic Affairs.

The Prime Minister

The scope of the duties will be broadly the same, namely, to assist my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the economic side of his responsibilities.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

In those circumstances, will the Prime Minister say why it has taken him so long to discover that the duties of the Minister of State for Economic Affairs would be so much more effectively discharged by someone else at £1,000 a year less?

The Prime Minister

We must feel our way as we go.

Mr. Manuel

Who is the next to go?
