§ 26. Mr. Lewisasked the Minister of Food on what date or dates the price of rationed gammon bacon was last 4s. per pound above that in operation in the week ended 4th November, 1952.
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeWhen I said, on 12th November, that gammon was 4s, per lb. cheaper than it had been, I was referring to cooked gammon, which was selling at 12s. to 14s. per lb. before 5th October.
§ Mr. LewisIs the Minister aware that he is completely misleading the House, as he did when, on an earlier occasion, I asked him if rationed gammon rashers were 4s. a lb? His answer completely misled the House then as he has done now.
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeI cannot control what the hon. Member says. If he gets mixed up, it is not my fault. I would remind him of the answer I gave him when he asked a Question on 12th November, referring to—and these are the words—"unrationed cooked gammon."
§ Mr. LewisOn a point of order. The Minister stated in answer to a supplementary from me on 12th November:
He talks about expensive gammon rashers, but they are 4s. per lb. cheaper than under his Government."—[OFFICIAL REPORT, 12th November, 1952 Vol. 507, c. 943.]1091 In view of the fact that the Minister then gave wrong information, and has now corrected it, is it not right, Sir, that he should now admit that he made a mistake?
§ Mr. SpeakerThat is not a point of order for me.
