HC Deb 23 April 1952 vol 499 c386
24. Mr. Baker White

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Defence if he is aware that Her Majesty's Forces are unable to obtain apple juice in the Navy, Army and Air Force Institute's canteens; and whether, in view of the increasing demand for non-alcoholic drinks among members of Her Majesty's Forces, he will take steps to ensure that this home-produced drink is made available.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Defence (Mr. Nigel Birch)

I am aware that this product is not stocked by N.A.A.F.I. canteens because there is little or no demand for it. If a demand should develop, I am sure that the corporation would do their best to meet it.

Mr. Baker White

Is my hon. Friend aware that in Germany the Forces are drinking large quantities of apple juice of German manufacture? Does he not think it would be a good thing for them to be allowed to drink apple juice of British manufacture?

Mr. Birch

No doubt it will be supplied if it is asked for.

Mr. Julian Snow

What is the Army coming to?
