HC Deb 07 April 1952 vol 498 c2259
5. Mr. Norman Dodds

asked the Minister of Food what progress has been made in considering a cleaner service to the public in the sale of beer in public houses.

Major Lloyd George

Following the inquiries that have been made I am advised that the methods at present in use do not involve any significant risk to health.

Mr. Dodds

Would the right hon. and gallant Gentleman bear in mind that it would be farcical to carry out the proposal made in the previous Question if the unsatisfactory practices found in many public houses were ignored, where liquid food is served, and would he look into the question of line instead of brim glasses?

Major Lloyd George

I have looked into the question very carefully and the suggestion of risk to health is definitely not borne out by inquiries made. In regard to the question of line glasses, I am bound to point out that it would mean entirely new machinery because the machinery at present is designed for pint and half-pint glasses; and the proposal would cause extreme difficulty on that score.
