HC Deb 27 November 1951 vol 494 cc1091-2
33. Mr. Bernard Braine

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government why the Basildon Development Corporation are levying charges upon householders who wish to be connected to the corporation's sewerage system greater than those which it is customary for a local authority to make.

Mr. H. Macmillan

I am looking into this question.

Mr. Braine

Would my right hon. Friend take note of the fact that the action of the Basildon Development Corporation is strongly resented by the urban district council responsible for the area? Will he see that these excessive charges are reduced, and that the nonelected Basildon Development Corporation takes more care in future of the rights and susceptibilities of the people living in the area?

Mr. Macmillan

This matter is capable of adjustment, I think, with common sense and goodwill, and I hope that it will be adjusted.
