HC Deb 27 November 1951 vol 494 c1092
36. Mr. Derek Walker-Smith

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many development plans have so far been submitted; how many are still to be submitted; and what is the maximum extension of time for the submission of such plans that has been granted under Section V of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1947.

Mr. H. Macmillan

Forty-three development plans have been submitted to me and 108 remain to be submitted. I expect about half of the outstanding plans to be in before the end of the year. The maximum extension of time which has been granted for submission of any plan is one and a half years, that is, until the 31st December, 1952.

Mr. Walker-Smith

Does my right hon. Friend appreciate that, unfortunately, under his predecessor, progress has been slow? Will he bear in mind the advantage of getting on quickly with this task in order to remove uncertainty from residents, industrialists, and would-be developers?
