HC Deb 27 November 1951 vol 494 cc1108-9
46. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Prime Minister which Ministers now have the use of official cars.

The Prime Minister

I should be much obliged to the hon. Member if he would put this Question down for next week.

Mr. Hynd

The same day next week?

The Prime Minister

Monday, if the hon. Member will.

47. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Prime Minister which Ministers are entitled to use official aircraft.

The Prime Minister

Arrangements may be made for Ministers to travel by air on official duties at public expense when this is desirable.

Mr. H. Hynd

Are there no planes allocated to particular Ministers?

The Prime Minister

I believe the Civil Aviation Department have a certain number of planes which are used for various testing purposes—[Laughter]—testing purposes of a technical character, and that these incidentally may serve the public purposes to which I have referred.

Mr. Mitchison

Can the Prime Minister tell us how he chooses Ministers for testing?

Mr. Julian Snow

Is the Prime Minister aware that he will probably carry the whole House with him if he authorises the allocation to Ministers of the most up-to-date transport available so that they can conduct their affairs properly?

The Prime Minister

That is a general proposition which could not, I think, be judged adequately by the House without some considerable examination and refinement.
