HC Deb 27 November 1951 vol 494 c1094
5. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what controls it is his intention to maintain, lift, or introduce in the building industry to ensure the rapid construction of 300,000 houses per year.

Mr. H. Macmillan

If the hon. Gentleman refers to the system of allocations to local authorities, I propose to maintain this general method while increasing its flexibility.

Mrs. Barbara Castle

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell the House whether the brick manufacturers have yet replied to the appeal of the Minister of Works to them to tell him what controls, if any, they would like him to lift from the industry?

Mr. Macmillan

That ought to be addressed to the Minister of Works.
