asked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he will consider permitting approved individuals and firms to install additional telephone apparatus at the addresses of existing telephone subscribers, and so reduce the delay and expense of such work being carried out by Post Office engineering staff.

Mr. Gammans

I can appreciate my hon. Friend's point of view on this subject, but he will understand that there are serious technical and administrative difficulties in making a general arrangement on the lines he suggests. I am, however, examining how far such approval might be given in special cases.
