§ 16. Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Assistant Postmaster-General when the new 2s. 6d. and 5s. books containing ½d., 1d. and ½d. stamps will be available; what will be the contents of each; and what is the estimated sale of each variety per annum.
§ Mr. GammansIt is expected that the new books will be on sale in March next. The contents will be:
§ 2s.6d. books.
- 6 stamps at 2½d.
- 6 stamps at 1½d.
- 3 stamps at 1d.
- 6 stamps at ½d.
§ 5s. books.
- 18 stamps at 2½d.
- 6 stamps at 1½d.
- 3 stamps at 1d.
- 6 stamps at ½d.
§ It is estimated that sales of the 2s. 6d. books will be of the order of 42 million a year and 5s. books some 9 million.
§ Mr. FreemanIn view of the great popularity of these books and the great saving which they entail, particularly to 959 the staff of post offices, will the Minister have notices put up in every post office reminding the public to take advantage of them, in view of this saving of time both to the public and the staff concerned?
§ Mr. GammansThat point is being considered.
§ Lieut.-Colonel Bromley-DavenportTo encourage business, will the Assistant Postmaster-General consider reducing the price of stamps if they are bought in large quantities, and will he also consider creating a new swopping department with other countries?
§ Mr. GammansI am afraid that is a suggestion which the Post Office will not be able to consider.
