HC Deb 14 November 1951 vol 493 c961
36. Mr. Leslie Hale

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the Lancashire town of Chadderton suffers inconvenience by the fact that the Post Office will not offer it the address of Chadderton, Lancashire; what are the reasons for this; and what remedial steps he proposes to take.

Mr. Gammans

The present postal address of Chadderton is necessary in the interests of a speedy and efficient delivery of correspondence. The address suggested would lead to delays.

Mr. Hale

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that this can only lead to delays so long as the postal service is outside this large urban district, and why does he not bring it in?

Mr. Gammans

I think the hon. Member knows the answer because he attended a conference of postal officials as well as local authorities on this matter a few months ago.
