HC Deb 13 November 1951 vol 493 c808
35. Lieut-Colonel Bromley-Davenport

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he has yet given consideration to the proposals of the Association of Municipal Corporations recommending that town meetings in connection with the promotion of Private Bills should be abolished; and whether, before taking any decision in this matter, he will have full consultation with organisations representing the small local authorities and individual ratepayers.

Mr. H. Macmillan

I have not yet had an opportunity of considering these proposals; they would involve legislation.

Lieut-Colonel Bromley- Davenport

Will my right hon. Friend protect the ratepayers of small local authorities and see that they continue to have the opportunity to resist the somewhat totalitarian encroachments of the larger local authorities?

Mr. Macmillan

That is one of the matters which I shall consider.
