HC Deb 13 November 1951 vol 493 cc808-9
40. Mr. R. E. Winterbottom

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether his attention has been called to the problem of noise and vibration of the hammers in Backing Street and Manningham Road in the Brightside Division; and if he will take steps to eliminate this nuisance, especially at night and at week-ends.

Mr. H. Macmillan

I am aware of the problem. Efforts are being made to abate the nuisance, and they will be continued

Mr. Winterbottom

Meanwhile, is the Minister prepared to recommend that compensation shall be paid to the tenants affected for broken glass, wireless sets and other things concerned in the house?

Mr. Macmillan

I will consider that.

Mr. John Hynd

In connection with this particular type of nuisance, is the Minister aware that there are technical means of overcoming it. Can he consider taking powers to ensure that in serious cases of this kind such technical devices are employed?

Mr. Macmillan

I am afraid that I was not aware of that. I shall be very grateful if the hon. Member will send information.
