HC Deb 13 November 1951 vol 493 cc804-5
34. Mr. David Logan

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether, in view of the dearth of houses in Liverpool, he will increase the allocation quota to meet Liverpool housing demands.

Mr. H. Macmillan

I am willing to increase the allocation in accordance with progress made.

Mr. Logan

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the Liverpool housing authority has about 46,000 applications for houses and states that if it can get a greater allocation it can build more houses? Is the right hon. Gentleman prepared to give Liverpool a greater allocation?

Mr. Macmillan

The last tender was approved in September, and I am certainly willing to increase the allocation in accordance with the general programme.

Mr. A. J. Irvine

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the proportion of building labour to the total insured population is lower on Merseyside than in any other part of the country? Will he indicate how he proposes to tackle the problem created by that situation?

Mr. Macmillan

That is another question.
