51. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Prime Minister if, in view of his decision that there should be a reduction of 25 per cent. in certain Cabinet Ministers salaries to set an example of economy to the nation during the period of re-armament, he will introduce legislation to reduce expenditure on the larger items in the Civil List.

Owing to the popularity, the Government have gained by the reduction of their salaries, is not the Prime Minister prepared to apply the principle to the big item of more than £500,000 spent on the Civil List?
