HC Deb 12 November 1951 vol 493 c646
52. Mr. Martin Lindsay

asked the Prime Minister whether he will appoint a judicial inquiry to investigate all the circumstances leading to the withdrawal of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company from Persia.

The Prime Minister

I doubt whether a lengthy inquiry into all these matters would be helpful to our general interests and my answer is, therefore, in the negative.

Mr. Lindsay

Does not my right hon. Friend think that there is something to be said for such an inquiry, if only to give the right hon. Gentleman the Member for Lewisham, South (Mr. H. Morrison), the opportunity of refuting the widely held charge that he was the worst Foreign Secretary for 100 years?
