asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why no African or Asian has been appointed to the Uganda Electricity Board.

Mr. J. Griffiths

There is an Asian on the Uganda Electricity Board. Members are appointed for their personal qualifications for the work of the Board, and not to represent racial or other interests.

Mr. Rankin

Am I to understand from the reply of my right hon. Friend that no African or Asian member has been appointed to the Uganda Electricity Board?

Mr. Griffiths

No, Sir. I said that there is an Asian on the Uganda Electricity Board, but at the moment not an African.
