§ 29. Mr. M. MacMillanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether his 2206 Department will be contributing to the cost of the survey of the North Ford Causeway route in the Western Isles, to be undertaken this winter by the Royal Engineers; and when it is to begin.
§ Mr. J. StuartMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for War has agreed that the Survey of the North Ford Causeway will proceed as soon as the necessary personnel can be made available, but he regrets that at present he is unable to indicate the probable date of its commencement. The question of a contribution from funds at my disposal does not arise at this stage.
§ Mr. MacMillanIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the decision of the late Secretary of State and his colleague at the War Office caused very great satisfaction, and that there would be tremendous disappointment if there were any unnecessary or avoidable delay? Could he not consult again with the War Office and the G.O.C.?
§ Mr. StuartI assure the hon. Gentleman that I agree with him. I have again written to the Secretary of State for War, and he has promised to reconsider the matter early in the New Year.
§ Mr. MacMillanI am much obliged.
