§ 51. Sir Peter Macdonaldasked the Minister of Agriculture if he is aware that pamphlets advertising the Communist Party summer schools are being enclosed in envelopes sent out by the Milk Marketing Board notifying farmers of their credits and enclosing copies of the Home Farmer; and what action he proposes to take to see that this practice is discontinued.
Mr. T. WilliamsI am assured by the Milk Marketing Board that if such pamphlets are being inserted in their envelopes it is without their knowledge or approval. I am asking the Board to investigate the complaint of which the hon. Member sent me particulars yesterday.
§ Sir P. MacdonaldIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that there are other similar cases which I have not yet sent him? Is he further aware that farmers whose sons have been called up and who are fighting against Communism in Korea resent the fact that letters sent by the Milk Marketing Board are used for disseminating this Communist propaganda?
Mr. WilliamsThe Milk Marketing Board is not being used for that purpose. All the envelopes are perfectly clean and tidy when they leave their office, and if something happens later it certainly is not the fault of the Board.
§ Mr. HarrisonWill my right hon. Friend say to what extent farmers attend Communist summer schools?
