§ 46. Mr. Blackasked the Prime Minister what is the annual number of licence applications at present being dealt with 2480 by the various Government Departments estimated on the same basis as the figures given in the schedule to the Herbert Committee Report on the Work of Intermediaries.
§ The Prime MinisterThe figures given in the report of the Committee on Intermediaries were compiled on the basis of the written evidence supplied by Government Departments in March, 1949, for the purposes of the Committee. The situation has greatly changed since then, as a result of the many subsequent relaxations of controls; but I should not feel justified in asking Departments to undertake the considerable extra work which would be involved in maintaining these returns on an up-to-date basis.
