HC Deb 18 October 1950 vol 478 c2022
9. Commander Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what action is being taken, in view of the Egyptian Government's reply to His Majesty's Government's protest of 12th August, against new restrictions on oil tankers using the Suez Canal.

Mr. Bevin

As stated in the reply to the hon. and gallant Member's Question on 18th September, His Majesty's Government consider the Egyptian Government's reply to their protest of 12th August to be unsatisfactory. They have been in consultation with the Governments of other maritime Powers, and until their views have been received, which it is hoped will be shortly, it would be premature for me to make any further statement. Meanwhile, I am not aware of any cases in which the new Egyptian regulations have, in practice, led to delays.
