HC Deb 24 May 1950 vol 475 c2030
4. Mr. Wood

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether his Department intends to purchase the area known as the Cowden tank range in the East Riding of Yorkshire; and, if so, for what purpose it will be used.

Mr. A. Henderson

Yes, Sir. This range will be used jointly by the Army and the Royal Air Force. The Army will use it for tank gunnery and the R.A.F. for live bombing, practice bombing and air-to-ground gunnery and rocket firing.

Mr. Wood

Will the right hon. and learned Gentleman give an assurance that the Cowden tank range will be fully used in the next year or so, as it has not been fully used in the last three or four years?

Mr. Henderson

Yes, Sir. It is the intention that the Army will use it for Territorial practice only between the months of May and September, and that the Royal Air Force will use it for four or five days a week.
