HC Deb 24 May 1950 vol 475 c2031
6. Mr. J. Grimston

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation why the radio range service at London Airport has been discontinued.

Mr. Beswick

The radio range service at London Airport has been discontinued owing to radio congestion in the medium frequency band. It has been replaced by a low power non-directional medium frequency beacon which meets operational needs.

Mr. Grimston

Is the Minister aware that a number of aircraft which use this airport would need this particular facility? They have not the alternative he mentioned.

Mr. Beswick

This new beacon has been agreed to by the operators.
