§ 61. Mr. Thornton-Kemsleyasked the Minister of Transport if he has yet reached a decision as to whether the powers under which the Montrose Harbour Trustees are authorised to make charges in excess of their statutory maxima are to be continued after the end of this year.
§ Mr. BarnesThe Government have under consideration the manner in which the powers on which the harbour trustees rely shall be continued in force after the end of the present year.
§ Mr. Thornton-KemsleyDoes the Minister realise that this delay in coming to a decision is causing the harbour trustees great concern since, unless a decision is soon arrived at, they may have to promote Provisional Orders to continue the present rates?
§ Mr. BarnesYes, I am fully aware of that, and I think that, generally, I have assured the harbour trustees. Many others are involved, and the Government will seriously consider this matter, because it is essential that we should resolve it before the end of this year.
