§ 59. Mr. Keelingasked the Minister of Transport whether he will exhibit in the House, and subsequently in public, the model and plan of his scheme for Hyde Park Corner, together with the Lutyens' model and plan.
§ Mr. BarnesThe hon. Member is no doubt referring to a scheme at present under discussion between officers of the London County Council, the Westminster City Council and my Department, and to another scheme which was the subject of a model exhibited by Sir Edwin Lutyens at the Royal Academy before the war. The pre-war scheme was one of several that were unacceptable for various reasons, and the model of it no longer exists. I am hoping to arrange with the authorities concerned that, when the 1640 essentials of the new scheme have been settled, a model and a plan of it should be exhibited as suggested by the hon. Member.
§ Mr. KeelingWill the right hon. Gentleman give an assurance that any good features in the Lutyens' scheme will be incorporated in the new one?
§ Mr. BarnesYes, Sir. I have followed that scheme right the way through, and it is obvious that many of the basic features of Sir Edwin Lutyens' plan are incorporated in the new one.
