asked the Minister of Food if, in view of the regular appearance of ham on restaurant menus, he will increase the supply of cooked and uncooked ham available for purchase by the private consumer.

Restaurants sometimes can get ham as part of their bacon allocations, in the same way as housewives sometimes can buy on their bacon ration a piece of ham for boiling. I am only sorry that I cannot let both of them have more at present.

Could any contribution be made to the housewife's supplies by a further limitation of the amount available for restaurants and cafés, or canteens?

Restaurants account for only 2 per cent. of the supplies.
