HC Deb 22 May 1950 vol 475 c1636
32. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Food if he has considered the invitation from the Retail Fruit Merchants' Federation to organise or plan the supplies of fruit and vegetables from the growers to the consumers in order to cut out needless middlemen, improve the quality and reduce prices; and what reply he has given.

Mr. F. Willey

These and other proposals are now being considered.

Mr. Awbery

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this is creating a great deal of dissatisfaction, and will he speedily do something drastic to rectify this unsatisfactory state of affairs?

Mr. Willey

I have already explained the difficulties, but we are proceeding with this matter as quickly as we can.
