HC Deb 16 May 1950 vol 475 cc1006-7
64. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many notices have been served on residents in the United Kingdom consequent upon the powers conferred upon him under Section 30 of the Exchange Control Act, 1947; and the general principles upon which such notices have been served.

Sir S. Cripps

Three such notices have been served, all under Section 30 (1) (i) of the Act. They have been served in cases when informal requests by the Bank of England, for information about the assets or business of a foreign company controlled by residents of the United Kingdom, have not been met.

Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

Have they been issued only for the purpose of securing information? Have no proceedings been taken subsequently under the Exchange Control Act?

Sir S. Cripps

None has so far been necessary.
