HC Deb 16 May 1950 vol 475 c993
32. Mr. Eric Fletcher

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning what economies in the staff of his Department and of local authorities can be expected as a result of the relaxation of controls which he announced on 10th May.

Mr. Dalton

This remains to be seen.

Mr. Fletcher

Does that mean that all the appropriate economies will be made?

Mr. Dalton

It remains to be seen how far local authorities—whose staffs I do not, of course, directly control—will be able to save staff. I hope they will because, in my opinion, they have been using staff on trivialities to a considerable extent in the area that has been cleared by my Order. So far as my own staff is concerned, the saving I can hope for will be in respect of having fewer appeals against local authority planning decisions.
