HC Deb 16 May 1950 vol 475 cc1012-3
76. Mr. Donner

asked the President of the Board of Trade what detailed information he has given to the Federation of British Industries regarding the recent Ordinance passed by the Governor of Trinidad to aid pioneer industries; and what measures he proposes to take to inform United Kingdom business circles of the opportunities now made available by the provisions of similar legislation in other West Indian territories as well as conditions and opportunities in the Colonial Empire as a whole.

Mr. Bottomley

None, Sir; details of this Ordinance will be summarised in the Board of Trade Journal.

As regards the second part of the Question, United Kingdom business circles are kept informed through the publication of articles and notices in the Board of Trade Journal and through the Board of Trade Special Register Service of Information. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies also makes available a very large amount of information about conditions in the Colonies.

Mr. Donner

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the measures so far taken by various Departments are wholly inadequate and quite ineffective?
