HC Deb 10 May 1950 vol 475 c365
31. Brigadier Clarke

asked the Postmaster-General why Malaya is not in telephonic communications with this country: and by what date he hopes this facility will be available.

Mr. Ness Edwards

The reopening of telephone service between the United Kingdom and Malaya has involved the provision of radiotelephone equipment at a relay point in Nairobi and at the terminal station in Singapore. Speech tests between this country and Malaya, through the relay point in Nairobi, are now being made. If these tests prove satisfactory, it is hoped to reopen the service within two or three weeks.
