HC Deb 29 March 1950 vol 473 cc375-6
21. Mr. Ian Harvey

asked the Postmaster-General what is the average delay in installing telephones against normal application in the district served by the Wordsworth exchange.

Mr. Ness Edwards

Where line plant is available a normal application for telephone service in the Wordsworth exchange area should be met within three to seven weeks, according to the priority of the application.

Mr. Harvey

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there are, in fact, cases of up to three years' delay?

Mr. Ness Edwards

Yes, Sir, I am aware of that, but that deals with cases where there is no line plant. The hon. Member will be pleased to know that 870 people will be connected to the service by the end of the year, when the new line plant is put in.
