HC Deb 29 March 1950 vol 473 c375
20. Mr. Ian Harvey

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that subscribers connected to the Grimsdyke exchange are experiencing considerable delays owing to the fact that the exchange is not fully automatic; how soon an automatic system is likely to be established; and what immediate action he will take to improve the situation.

Mr. Ness Edwards

Regular observations indicate that the service given by this exchange in recent months has been quite good, but if the hon. Member will give me particulars of cases of delay, I shall be pleased to investigate them. There are much older manual exchanges than Grimsdyke still in service, and in view of the limited supplies of new equipment available to the Post Office I cannot say when this exchange will be converted to automatic working.
