HC Deb 29 March 1950 vol 473 cc386-7
33. Mr. Ian Harvey

asked the Secretary of State for Air how many aircraft and of what type are available to provide towed target practice for anti-aircraft practice camps; how many practising hours they were scheduled to fly during 1949; and how many hours they actually did fly.

Mr. A. Henderson

Eighty-six aircraft of types including Beaufighters, Spitfires and Vampires are available for towed target practice for anti-aircraft practice camps. These aircraft were authorised to fly a total of 10,000 hours although the flying hours actually demanded for the practice camps in 1949 totalled only 7,000 hours. 4,637 hours were flown, cancellation of the balance being largely due to bad weather.
