HC Deb 29 March 1950 vol 473 cc389-90
40. Sir W. Smiles

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation what equipment and methods are used to enable aircraft to approach and land at Ringway Airport in bad weather conditions.

Mr. Beswick

The radio aids available at Ringway to assist pilots to approach to landing in bad weather are: SBA; MF non-directional beacon; VHF direction finding station; MF direction finding station. Instrument approach proce- dures recommended for use with each of these aids are shown on charts published by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and are also promulgated in Ministry of Civil Aviation Information Circular No. 106/1949 and amendments.

Mr. Keeling

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say whether at airports "bad weather conditions" are the same as "bad weather," or something different?

Mr. Beswick

The difference is usually between the weather forecasts and the bad weather experienced.
