HC Deb 29 March 1950 vol 473 cc379-80
15. Sir Waldron Smithers

asked the Postmaster-General to what extent censorship is imposed on private correspondence in Great Britain.

Mr. Ness Edwards

There is no postal censorship of private correspondence in Great Britain.

Sir W. Smithers

In view of the widespread activities of the Post Office, is the right hon. Gentleman quite sure that there are no Gestapo methods or censorship unofficially, without his knowledge?

Mr. Ness Edwards

I should hate to be the victim of a Gestapo of that sort.
