HC Deb 28 March 1950 vol 473 cc171-2
31. Mr. Ian Winterbottom

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that as a result of a reduction in Government orders placed with the aircraft construction industry, the Langar depot of the firm A. V. Roe Limited will be closed shortly, and what action he is proposing to take to ensure that the skilled labour force at present employed there is not dispersed and thus wasted

Mr. Isaacs

I understand that the firm in question has sufficient work at present for the Langar factory to last until the end of the year.

Mr. Winterbottom

Will my right hon. Friend bear in mind that the value of the production team is greater than that of its individual members and give every encouragement to keeping that team in being?

Mr. Isaacs

It is not a question of keeping the team in being, but of whether the firm has enough work to carry on with. Should any of these skilled workers desire to leave or have to leave the firm, we shall have no difficulty in placing them elsewhere.
