HC Deb 26 July 1950 vol 478 c442
37. Mr. P. B. Lucas

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation whether he will make a statement on the progress of negotiations with the Manchester Corporation on the future of Ringway Airport.

Mr. Beswick

The proposals put forward by the Manchester Corporation are being very carefully considered and I am not yet in a position to make a statement.

Mr. Lucas

Will the Parliamentary Secretary bear in mind the necessity for having a yardstick by which to measure the efficiency of his Ministry in the operation of Ringway, when it comes about, with any other airport?

Mr. Beswick

We will bear that in mind.

Mr. Erroll

Will the Parliamentary Secretary also bear in mind that Manchester is very anxious to maintain its own airport?

Mr. Beswick

I have already gathered that from the Manchester Corporation.
