§ 30. Mr. J. Grimstonasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation what steps are being taken to institute a one-way traffic system in the London Metropolitan Control Zone.
§ Mr. BeswickA new traffic pattern for the Metropolitan Control Zone is in course of preparation. It is proposed to bring it into operation with the introduction of phase II of the airways.
§ Mr. GrimstonDoes that answer, coupled with the previous one, mean that the Ministry have decided on a one-way traffic pattern, or are they going to have crossing patterns as they have them at the moment?
§ Mr. BeswickI am not certain what the hon. Gentleman means by a one-way pattern. It has never been the plan in any country so to devise arrangements that two aircraft travelling in opposite directions proceed along the same flight path.
§ 43. Mr. Reader Harrisasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation when he will be able to make a statement on the proposed arrangements for handling expeditiously jet and turbo-prop airliners at London Airport.
§ Mr. BeswickThe new traffic pattern for the Metropolitan Control Zone has been planned in the light of forthcoming jet and turbo-prop operations. The detailed arrangements are being progressively worked out by my Department in consultation with interested parties.
§ Mr. HarrisIs the Department making any effort to reach an agreement speedily on this matter, in view of our superiority in respect of these engines and the necessity for getting agreement before they can be used on scheduled airlines?
§ Mr. BeswickThese consultations are going very smoothly.
