HC Deb 12 July 1950 vol 477 c1359
65. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, in view of the great shortage of houses and the high rents prevailing in Georgetown, British Guiana, to what extent the buildings taken over from the United States Government at the American base could be converted into flats; whether the road thereto could be brought into good condition; and what plans exist for building small houses to meet the existing need.

Mr. Cook

I am asking the Governor for the information, and I will pass it on to my hon. Friend when it arrives.

Mr. Sorensen

Can my hon. Friend see that the suggestion embodied in this Question is carried out, particularly in view of the very high rents and the very great shortage of houses? Can he not do something more than just inquire?

Mr. Cook

I would rather wait until we have received the information from the Governor.

Mr. Sorensen

Will my hon. Friend do something after that?
